Shire of Narrogin - Firebreak Order

Notice to all Owners and / or Occupiers of land in the district of the Shire of Narrogin.

Pursuant to the powers contained in Section 33 of the above Act, you are hereby required on or before the 31st October, 2006 to clear of all inflammable material, firebreaks not less than 2.5 metres wide in the following position on all rural and townsite land owned or occupied by you and thereafter to maintain the firebreaks clear of inflammable material up to and including the 30th April, 2007.

    1. Inside and within 20 metres of the boundary of all land, and
    2. Surrounding such other positions as is necessary to divide land in excess of 400 hectares into area not exceeding 400 hectares, each completely surrounded by a firebreak, and
    3. Surrounding all area on which buildings, haystacks, fuel ramps and fuel containers are situated on the land at a distance of not more than 40 metres from the exterior of such buildings, haystacks, fuel ramps and fuel containers.

If it is considered to be impractical for any reason to clear firebreaks as required by this notice, you may apply to the Council or its duly authorised officer not later than the 31st October, 2006 for permission to provide firebreaks in alternative positions on the land or to utilise the firebreak on adjoining land. If permission is not granted by Council or its duly authorised officer, you shall comply with the requirements of this notice.

The penalty for failing to comply with this notice is a fine of not less than $40 or more than $400 and a person in default is also liable, whether prosecuted or not, to pay the cost of performing the work directed in this notice if it is not carried out by the owner or occupier by the date required by this notice.

If the requirements of this notice are carried out by burning, such burning must be in accordance with the provisions of the Bush Fires Act 1954 – 1981.

Harvest Bans and Other Bans

Permitted Activity
Loading and offloading of grain and fertiliser is only permitted on sites which have been inspected by a fire control officer and authorised as being clear of all inflammable material save live standing trees to a radius of at least 50 metres with a laneway access similarly cleared to a minimum of 4 metres. A mobile fire fighting unit shall be in attendance at all times.
