Narrogin Works Unit

The Narrogin Works Unit (NWU) was created on the 1st July, 1998. It was formed by the amalgamation of the work crews that existed in the Town of Narrogin and Shire of Narrogin.

The primary motivation for amalgamating the crews was to achieve improved efficiency. The Shire of Narrogin had 10 outside staff and the Town of Narrogin had 16. The Shire's plant was geared up for road construction and maintenance whereas the Town had plant and equipment more suited to minor works and parks and gardens roles. The combining of these resources created a works crew with a larger fleet of plant and equipment, which has given it much more flexibility.

In the years since the formation of the Narrogin Works Unit additional items of plant have been purchased to meet its needs. It would have been difficult to justify the purchase of some of these items had the two crews remained separate identities.

The NWU has now been divided again, with a Parks and Gardens Crew and a Minor Construction Crew being managed by the Town of Narrogin.

The main work that the NWU undertakes is Major Construction, such as maintaining the roads in the Shire, completing outside contracts and generally improving the Shire road infrastructure.

We can also be contracted to complete private work for anyone wanting driveways graded or culverts constructed etc.
